Sean Dorsey travels the US
to RECORD oral history interviews for NEW SHOW
Sean Dorsey Dance’s new show, THE MISSING GENERATION, gives voice to longtime survivors of the early AIDS epidemic.
Dorsey created the show during a 2-year intensive process that brought him to 5 cities across the US – where he recorded oral history interviews with longtime survivors of the early epidemic, hosted community residencies and conducted archival research.

The voices and remarkable real-life stories that Dorsey recorded in these oral histories are featured in the show’s award-winning multi-layered soundscore that also features gorgeous original music composed by Alex Kelly, Jesse Olsen Bay, Ben Kessler and Jeffrey Alphonsus Mooney.
Dorsey says, “I am so passionate about this project. During the early epidemic, we lost part of an entire generation of gay, bi and transgender people. Our culture has turned its back on this part of our history. Also significantly, our culture has forgotten the early epidemic’s survivors – this is another forgotten generation we continue to neglect. I wanted to bring heart and voice and attention to this ‘missing generation,’ and bring some of their remarkable stories forward.”
